NEW YORK — A U.S. federal jury Monday convicted a Colombian drug cartel hit man for the 1989 bombing that killed 107 people aboard an Avianca Airlines jet. Dandenny Munoz-Mosquera, 28, also was convicted on charges of drug trafficking, conspiracy and murder.
The plane blew up en route to the Colombian capital Bogota from Cali. During the trial, the jury was shown extensive film of the plane’s wreckage and the maimed bodies of the victims.
The United States claimed jurisdiction in the case because cocaine was imported into the United States from Colombia and because two U.S. nationals were aboard.
