I take strong issue with Patrick Buchanan’s use of Friedrich Nietzsche’s philosophy as a progenitor of Nazi ideology. Yes, Nietzsche had strong disagreement with Christianity on a number of issues and one was the “herd-animal virtues of the so-called good and the just in society.” Nietzsche’s philosophy is so diverse and at times contradictory that what he wrote can be taken out of context and used to promote one’s own agenda. But what is uncontestable is his great anti-Fascist writing called the “New Idol” in his 19th-Century masterpiece “Thus Spoke Zarathustra.”
