NEWPORT BEACH : Winners of Holiday Boat Parade Named

The Newport Harbor Area Chamber of Commerce has announced the winners of the 1994 Newport Harbor Christmas Boat Parade. They will receive their trophies at a dinner and auction Jan. 20 at Le Meridien Hotel.

Unpretentious Too, owned by Geoff and Carol Landon of Balboa, won the Sweepstakes Award, according to Seymour Beek, a judging coordinator from the chamber’s Commodores Division.

The Mayor’s Award for Christmas theme went to skipper Bob Burns’ Spirit of Newport. The Harbor Master’s Award for the best display of humor went to Ebb Tide, owned by Gerald Van Vliet of San Juan Capistrano.

Tim Lewis’ Zooter won the Judges’ Award for originality.

Sasco Electric of Cerritos entered its El Navegante, which sailed off with the Commodores’ Award for the best light display.

Balboa resident Koussay Okko got the Chairman’s Award for holiday spirit for the display on Lattakia, and Alan and Susan Baron of Laguna Beach won the Dolphins Award for the best use of music on Magnanimous.

Three separate panels of six judges each viewed the parade each of three nights.
