Nation IN BRIEF : NEW YORK : Forum’s Trustees Agree to Restitution

Following a three-year investigation into alleged excessive spending, trustees at the Freedom Forum have paid more than $170,000 in restitution to the charitable foundation as part of a settlement announced by the New York state attorney general. The investigation found that Freedom Forum assets and staff were improperly used to purchase copies of, and promote a book by, the foundation’s chairman, Al Neuharth, former chairman of Gannett Co. Inc. He agreed to pay $30,000 in restitution.
