Suit Says Deaf-Mute Was Abused on Bus

A deaf and mute Alhambra teen-ager has sued the city’s high school district, saying she was sexually abused by two male students on a school bus in January.

The girl, who was 15 when the alleged incidents occurred, said that on Jan. 3, 4, 5 and 7, the two juveniles threatened to kill her or report her and her family to immigration authorities if she did not perform oral sex on one of them.

In her lawsuit, the girl also alleges that on several occasions the boys removed articles of her clothing and touched her breasts, buttocks and other parts of her body.

A week after the final incident, according to the lawsuit, the girl and her mother complained to officials of Alhambra and its high school district, but no action was taken.

The girl, who communicates with sign language and writing, is still forced to ride on the same bus and to attend the same school as the boys, according to the lawsuit, which seeks unspecified damages from the boys and their families and from Durham Transportation, operator of the bus line, as well as from the school district.

School officials had no immediate comment on the lawsuit.
