STILL WEIRD by Gahan Wilson (Forge: $13.95; 287 pp., paperback original). This large-format anthology provides an overview of more than 25 years of Wilson’s outre cartoons from Playboy, the National Lampoon and other magazines. His use of black humor and often macabre situations were obviously influenced by Charles Addams. But Gary Larson’s “The Far Side” and its many imitators have moved off-the-wall cartoons in new and funnier directions, and Wilson’s work often feels dated. The black and white reproductions reduce his wonderfully icky water color washes to barely legible smudges.
