Chinese Leader Deng Ailing, Daughter Says
The daughter of China’s paramount leader, Deng Xiaoping, says his health has deteriorated greatly in recent months and he can no longer stand or walk, a published report said today. In a New York Times interview, Xiao Rong said her father is at home at the family compound in Beijing. She denied reports by a Japanese newspaper this week that he had entered a hospital.
Deng’s health has been the focus of intense international speculation in recent months as China prepares a transition to a younger generation of leaders.
