Obituaries : Fred J. Doring, 74; Aerospace Engineer

A Camarillo resident for 23 years, aerospace engineer Fred J. Doring died this week after a lengthy illness. He was 74.

Born in Paupack, Penn., Doring attended Humboldt State University and the University of Texas, earning a degree in physics. During his career as an aerospace engineer, he was involved with wind tunnel testing with Boeing Aerospace in Seattle, rocket testing with Rocketdyne in Reno and testing of the Lunar Module at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Doring was also involved with testing of the F-14 Tomcat in New York. He worked with squadron VX-4 in Point Mugu and continued working on the F-14 weapons systems programs with Vitro Labs and EMC in Camarillo until his retirement in 1989.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann; a son, Frederick; a brother, Richard; and a sister, Agnes Lindeburgh. Doring was preceded in death by a son, Larry.

Rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Pierce Brothers Griffin Mortuary in Camarillo. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Magdalene’s Church in Camarillo.
