Microsoft Profit Soars 29%: The Redmond, Wash., company said earnings were buoyed in its fiscal second quarter by strong sales of applications software. Net income for the three months ended Dec. 31 was $373 million, or 60 cents per share, compared to $289 million, or 48 cents per share, in the same quarter of 1993. Revenue was $1.48 billion, a 31% increase over the same period in 1993.
