The heaviest rain in 150 years has cut roads, flooded homes, polluted water supplies and killed at least one person in western France, authorities said Saturday.

The National Weather Board said 3.5 inches of rain had fallen in 72 hours, equivalent to two months’ normal rainfall.

Local authorities said a water purifying center at Langon in the south of Brittany had been flooded, depriving 22 small towns of drinkable water as of Saturday morning.
