Vitesse Semiconductor Corp., a Camarillo-based supplier of gallium arsenide circuits for computers and other electronic equipment, reversed a year-earlier loss in the company’s fiscal first quarter that ended Dec. 31.

Vitesse reported a $562,000 profit in the quarter, compared to a $2.69-million loss in the same period a year earlier. Sales rose to $9.76 million, up 21% from $8.05 million a year earlier.

Lou Tomasetta, chief executive of Vitesse, attributed the results to the “continuation in the overall growth of shipments to our communications and test-equipment customers.” But overall growth, he said, “was tempered by the continuing decline of shipments to mainframe and supercomputer customers.”
