Amgen Inc., the Thousand Oaks biotechnology concern, received approval from the European Union for a broadened use of its Neupogen drug that produces infection-fighting white blood cells. The new approach will enable some patients to avoid bone-marrow transplants and receive doses of Neupogen instead, reports Amgen spokesman David Kaye. . . . GTE California, also in Thousand Oaks, may benefit from a federal court ruling allowing local telephone companies to offer interactive video to their customers. GTE hopes to build such networks in four markets, including Ventura County, this year. . . . And GTE’s data systems unit in Newbury Park will install three Siemens Nixdorf high-speed printing systems, costing more than $3 million each, to print customers’ statements and other items on both sides of a page. Siemens Nixdorf is a sister company of Camarillo-based Siemens Solar Products.
