Nation IN BRIEF : WASHINGTON, D.C. : Congress Workplace Bill Signed Into Law

From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Calling government elite and out of touch with ordinary Americans, President Clinton signed a bill that will force Congress to live by the same workplace laws it imposes on others. In an Oval Office ceremony, Clinton said the bill will help bring “a reality check to Washington.” Heading the list of the Republicans’ “contract with America,” the bill was the first measure adopted by the GOP-led Congress this year. The law was intended to symbolize an end to lawmakers’ privileged status.
