Countywide : Bomb Scare Delays Jet at John Wayne
A bomb scare delayed a Pittsburgh-bound USAir flight at John Wayne Airport on Tuesday afternoon, but a search of the plane turned up nothing.
The Boeing 737, with 58 passengers on board, was delayed for an hour as a sheriff’s bomb squad removed and searched baggage that a man said contained a bomb. The unidentified man approached a counter agent as the plane was pulling away about 1:30 p.m. and claimed there was a bomb on board.
“He said it was too bad he missed his flight because there was a bomb on board in his luggage,” said airport spokeswoman Pat Ware. The man left before authorities arrived, Ware said.
