PASADENA : Brain-Study Center at Caltech Gets Funding

Caltech has received a $1.4-million grant to establish the Center for Theoretical Neurobiology from the New York-based Sloan Foundation.

The center will study sight, hearing and smell, and examine how the brain transforms information from the senses into eye and body movements. It also will study learning and memory.

A new assistant professor and 11 faculty members will staff the center.

The Sloan Foundation makes grants for higher education and research in science and other fields.
