World IN BRIEF : EUROPE : Storms Bring Winds, Flooding; 16 Killed
At least 16 people have been killed in a week of storms that have lashed Europe. Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland and the Netherlands have been the hardest hit. Fierce winds flipped airplanes in Switzerland and ripped off roofs and knocked down trees in Austria, Germany and Belgium. Several rivers flooded in Germany. Six high school students were killed in Toul, France, when high winds toppled a crane onto a school. Other deaths were attributed to flooding, car accidents and falling objects.
