Two recipients shared this year’s Business of the Year award presented by the Oxnard Chamber of Commerce.

The awards went to a newcomer, the Shopping at the Rose project, and an oldster, Ventura-based Bank of A. Levy.

Pat Plew, chamber president, praised the Rose project, which features a Wal-Mart store, as “one of the premier retail real estate developments in Ventura County in the past 10 years.”

Plew said the chamber’s recognition of Bank of A. Levy is “a special, sentimental award given with great appreciation for all the bank has done and for all their efforts and community support.” The 113-year-old bank is being bought by Los Angeles-based First Interstate Bank.

The awards were announced at the chamber’s second annual inaugural ball. Kevin Bernzott, who heads Bernzott Capital Advisors, a real estate consulting and investment firm, was named business person of the year.

Bernzott, who is slated to be the chamber’s president in 1996, was one of the developers of Shopping at the Rose.

The volunteer of the year award went to Donna Cole, an executive with Baldwin Co., a home builder and developer.

The chamber’s new president, Mike Montoya of Southern California Edison, was installed along with the group’s new board of directors.
