A police officer who got into a parking lot scuffle with two suspects was knocked down or fell and hit his head on a car bumper Wednesday.

The incident occurred about 4:45 p.m. when the officer pulled a car over in the lot in front of a 7-Eleven at Sepulveda and Venice boulevards, police said.

Initial “assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer” reports suggested the unidentified patrolman had been shot, but a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman said there was no shooting.

He said details of the incident were sketchy but that the officer “initiated a traffic stop of two male juvenile suspects.

“They got out of the car, and he was talking to one of them, and one of them either pushed him or hit him and he fell and hit his head on the bumper of the car.”

The officer was taken to Daniel Freeman Marina Hospital, Cox said.

At least one youth was arrested and several other young men were detained, but an eyewitness brought to the scene reportedly was unable to identify a second suspect.
