COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Pepperdine Upends UC Irvine in Tennis

After UC Irvine managed to sweep in Nos. 1, 2 and 3 singles, the Anteaters lost the remaining three singles matches and all of the double matches Wednesday to lose to Pepperdine, 4-3, in a nonconference men’s tennis match.

Chris Tontz won at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-7, 7-6, Marc Tardif won at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, and Fred Bach swept No. 3 singles, 6-4, 7-5 for UC Irvine (3-3).

Pepperdine, ranked No. 5 in the nation, improved to 6-1. The Anteaters are ranked 37th.

In another nonconference men’s tennis match:

Cal Lutheran 7, Chapman 2--Kevin Hill won in No. 4 singles, 7-6, 6-0 for Chapman (0-1). Cal Lutheran improved to 3-0.

In Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s volleyball:

Cal State Northridge 3, UC Irvine 1--Leland Quinn had 25 kills for visiting Irvine (3-1, 2-1), which lost, 13-15, 15-3, 15-9, 15-3.
