Seniors : Achievements, activities : COUNTYWIDE: 7 Residents to Attend Conference on Aging

Seven Orange County residents are among the 66 delegates appointed by Gov. Pete Wilson to be representatives to the White House Conference on Aging from May 2 to 5 in Washington. Among the issues expected to be addressed at the conference are health, income security, social and community services, crime and personal safety.

The local delegates are: Warren E. Diaz of Fountain Valley, Marilyn L. Ditty of El Toro, Blaine E. Hendrickson of Laguna Hills, John G. Kumbera of Brea, Shizuko (Sue) H. Miyamoto of Orange, Brenda B. Ross of Newport Beach and Robert A. Wiswell of Seal Beach.

A spokesman for the governor said the delegates represent “the grass-roots diversity of California.”

IRVINE: Seeking Input at County Meetings

The Irvine Senior Council is seeking representatives to attend the following county government meetings: the Health Committee on the fourth Wednesday of the month, the Nutrition Committee on the third Thursday, and the Transportation Committee on the fourth Wednesday.

The Health Committee reviews legislation that could have an impact on health benefits for seniors. The committee also hosts seminars on health issues for seniors.

The Nutrition Committee monitors services that provide meals to seniors and works in conjunction with the Irvine Senior Nutrition Program.

The Transportation Committee works with county and city public transportation agencies to monitor transportation services for the elderly.

BREA: Valentine’s Day Luncheon Scheduled

A Valentine’s Day luncheon will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Brea Senior Center. The suggested donation is $1.50. Seniors are encouraged to bring framed photographs of their sweethearts to the annual celebration. For a small fee, photo images will be transferred onto a button, magnet or key chain.

The center’s address is 500 S. Sievers St. at Elm Street.

CORONA DEL MAR: Trip to Huntington Library Planned

A trip Wednesday to the Huntington Library to tour its gardens and share a gourmet tea are among the activities offered by the Oasis Multipurpose Senior Citizens Center. The cost is $30.

Dates and locations for other bus trips conducted by the center include:

* Feb. 16: Santa Anita Race Track. Cost: $20.

* Feb. 23: A tour of the historic Gamble House in Pasadena. Cost: $18.
