PLACENTIA : Store Owner Denied Permit to Sell Alcohol
- Share via
The City Council unanimously rejected a convenience store owner’s appeal Tuesday for a permit to sell liquor, citing the prevalence of businesses selling liquor in the city and the store’s proximity to junior high and high schools.
The council voted to prohibit the sales despite pleas from businessman Bhupendra Patel, who wants to relocate his store to the Chapman Square strip mall at 107 Chapman Ave.
Development Director Joyce Rosenthal noted that 10 other businesses within a one-mile radius sell liquor for off-site consumption: five convenience stores, three supermarkets, a liquor store and a sandwich shop.
Joy Thokia, who spoke to the council on Patel’s behalf, said his store would be a unique use in the area because he plans to sell hot dogs and tacos along with other typical convenience store items.
