Share

Residents may attend a workshop Feb. 23 at Salesian Boys and Girls Club to learn how to become a youth mentor and other ways to get involved with youths in the community.

The Mentor Opportunity Workshop will explain what mentoring is, why youths need mentors and how the quality of mentoring can help youths.

The workshop will be from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the club, 3218 Wabash Ave.

It is sponsored by the White Memorial Medical Center’s Building a Healthier Community project and the Los Angeles Mentoring Coalition.

“It is not enough to care for the sick,” said Socorro Macias, project director. “We believe that health care providers must team up with their communities and lead the way in attacking the root causes of illness--poverty, illiteracy, drugs, violence and (lack of) education.”
