NEWPORT BEACH : Planners OK Rules to Spruce Up City’s Look
- Share via
New regulations intended to spruce up city neighborhoods has won Planning Commission approval, setting in motion a change that would require property owners to keep indoor furniture out of sight and limit parking boats, recreational vehicles, campers and trailers in front of homes.
Specifically, the changes approved last week would limit parking or storing boats and RVs on residential lots to driveways and paved parking areas in front of homes and side-yard pads that are behind front setbacks.
The goal is to discourage property owners from parking RVs and boats on patios, lawns and landscaped areas and to get the vehicles out of the view of passersby, and give code enforcement officers the grounds to issue citations.
The new rules would also prohibit storing furniture “intended for indoor use,” such as upholstered sofas and chairs, washing machines, refrigerators and freezers, in front of homes or on patios, balconies and yards visible from public streets.
The City Council must approve the rules before they become final.
