A faulty electrical fixture may have sparked a fire that caused $80,000 damage to a strip mall Sunday, authorities said.

The second-alarm blaze was reported at 1:30 a.m., and it took 34 firefighters 27 minutes to put it out, an Orange County Fire Department dispatcher said.

Eight fire engines, two trucks and two battalion chiefs reported to the fire in the shopping center in the 100 block of Avenida del Mar. The center contains a gift shop, shoe store, men’s clothing outlet and other small businesses.
