Volunteers : Helping hands : HUNTINGTON BEACH : Disaster-Service Volunteers Honored

Thirty-six Huntington Beach residents were honored recently by the City Council for finishing a course enabling them to serve as certified disaster-service workers. They will become part of the city’s Community Emergency Response Team. The program was started last April, after the devastating Northridge earthquake. Anyone who lives or works in Huntington Beach is encouraged to sign up for the next series of monthly certified disaster classes, which begins in April. Information: (714) 536-5980.

Anne Frank Exhibit Docents Are Sought

The Orange County Anne Frank Organizing Committee is looking for Holocaust survivors, rescuers, liberators and second-generation descendants to become docents for the coming “Anne Frank in the World” exhibition. The exhibition is planned at the Newport Harbor Art Museum, April 20-June 18. The purpose of the exhibition is to teach the dangers of intolerance and discrimination. The life of Anne Frank will be re-created with the display of more than 500 photographs and exhibits. The volunteer docents will serve as exhibition guides to visiting high school students. Volunteers will be requested to attend a training session in April and work two, four-hour shifts. Information: (714) 724-1009 or (714) 759-1122.

Environmental Board Seeks to Fill Vacancy

Applications to fill one position on the city’s Environmental Board are now being accepted. The board studies and reports on issues relating to the city environment. Applications are available at City Hall, 2000 Main St. Information: (714) 536-5550.

Volunteers are needed to work at a new information booth at the Rancho Senior Center. Volunteers will be asked to work several hours per week to provide seniors with information about the various programs offered at the center, at 3 Sandburg Way. Information: (714) 724-6913.

City Finance Board Member Is Sought

The city is taking applications to fill a vacancy on the Finance Board.

The board reviews and makes recommendations regarding fiscal policies, annual financial audits, debt management, capital improvement plans, long-term financial plans, new and increased revenue sources and proposed state and federal legislation that affects the city.
