Teen-Ager Stabs 2 Supervisors in Escape Attempt at Juvenile Hall

A 17-year-old trying to escape from Central Juvenile Hall near Downtown used a straightened bedspring Monday to stab two supervisors before being subdued, authorities said.

Both of the injured supervisors--who have some of the same duties as guards in an adult facility--were treated at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center after the 12:20 a.m. attack and released, officials said.

The teen-ager and his roommate were subdued before they could get outside the detention facility at 1605 Eastlake Ave., Assistant Supt. Nancy Signer said.

“I believe it was an escape attempt,” she said. “We believe that both may well have plotted together to escape. But when the time came to act, only one of them acted. The other one chickened out. That’s what it looked like.”
