Medi-Cal Marketing: Foundation Health Corp. has agreed to cease door-to-door marketing of a managed health care program for indigent people in the San Francisco area after its sales practices came under fire from some members and consumer advocates. Last week, two public interest groups and a law firm sued Foundation, accusing it of “deceptive and abusive marketing” practices in connection with door-to-door sales of its health maintenance organization plan for Medi-Cal recipients. Under an agreement reached with the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, Foundation will continue to market its Medi-Cal program but has agreed to no longer have its sales representatives call on Medi-Cal recipients at their homes. Kurt Davis, a Foundation spokesman, said the company will continue to use door-to-door sales for its Medi-Cal program in Southern California and other parts of the state.
