An argument between a Ventura man and a teen-age girl led to a house being set on fire and the girl being arrested on suspicion of arson, authorities said.

The incident at 4:45 p.m. Sunday occurred in the 100 block of El Medio Street, according to Ventura Police Detective Jeanne Boger. Before the fire, resident Luis Hernandez had been in an argument with a 17-year-old girl.

At some point, Boger said, Hernandez briefly left the house. During his absence, the girl, who was not identified because of her age, is alleged to have set fire to the clothes in his closet.

The fire quickly spread and the flames soon engulfed the house, Boger said. One of the occupants of the house was burned on the face and a firefighter was burned on the shoulder, according to the Ventura Fire Department.

Fire officials estimated $30,000 in damage to the house and $10,000 to the contents.

Boger said the girl was booked into Ventura County Juvenile Hall. No other details were immediately available.
