Obituaries : Louise Garliepp, 80; Retired Army Nurse

Louise Garliepp, a homemaker and longtime Oxnard resident, has died. She was 80.
Born in Norwalk, Ohio, the daughter of a railroad worker and a homemaker, Garliepp received training as a nurse in civilian hospitals in Toledo.
She enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1940 and served as a surgical nurse in the Pacific theater during World War II. During the U. S. campaign against the Japanese, she served as a combat nurse on Saipan.
Upon the birth of her son in 1950, Garliepp retired from the Army at the rank of captain and settled in Seattle with her husband, who was based there as a merchant seaman. The family moved to Oxnard in 1962.
Garliepp is survived by her husband, William Garliepp, and her son, William Garliepp Jr.
Services will be held today at James A. Reardon Mortuary, 511 A St., Oxnard.
