OXNARD : State Sues Medical Provider in Fraud
The state Compensation Insurance Fund has sued an Oxnard medical provider, claiming that Better Living Institute Inc. illegally obtained tens of thousands of dollars in workers’ compensation funds.
The lawsuit, which was announced Tuesday, was filed in Ventura County Superior Court and accuses the provider of fraud and conspiracy.
The suit contends that the owner of the Better Living, Dr. Shapoor Kadjar, falsified medical reports on dozens of workers’ compensation insurance claims.
Kadjar reported symptoms of work-related injuries for patients who had never been hurt on the job, a state fund news release said.
Kadjar then used the reports to justify expensive testing, treatment and additional medical exams, according to the lawsuit.
The suit seeks $104,000 in damages from the provider.
Neither Kadjar nor state authorities could be reached.
