COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Lahanas’ 31 Helps Titans Upset UCSB

Koko Lahanas scored a game-high 31 points as Cal State Fullerton upset UC Santa Barbara, 89-86, in a Big West Conference women’s basketball game Sunday at Fullerton.

The loss drops UC Santa Barbara (16-7, 12-4 in conference) out of a first-place tie with New Mexico State. Lahanas broke an 83-83 tie with two free throws with 1 minute 15 seconds left. She added a basket with 28 seconds left and the Titans’ Shayla Bradshaw made two free throws with 16 seconds left to put Fullerton ahead, 89-83.

UC Santa Barbara’s Kellie Cook made a three-pointer as time ran out. Autumn Hollyfield added 17 for Fullerton. She had three three-pointers to give her 136, which ties the Fullerton career record.

In nonconference baseball:

Cal 15, Long Beach State 4--Jason Minici had two doubles, drove in one run and scored another for Long Beach State (7-7), which had its four-game winning streak stopped.

In nonconference softball:

Cal State Fullerton 17-10, San Diego 0-0--Senetha Thomas had seven hits, including a home run in each game, for host Cal State Fullerton (9-1). The Titans had 24 hits in the first game, which was called after five innings because of the mercy rule.

In nonconference women’s tennis:

UC Irvine 6, Idaho State 3--Antje Fritschi won at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1, for host UC Irvine (1-7), which won four of six singles matches.

Cal State Fullerton 8, Southern Utah 1--Kara Kolb won at No. 1 singles, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, then combined with Debbie Denio to win, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 doubles for host Fullerton (2-1).
