German Strike Grows; Employers Offer Talks: The 5-day-old strike by the IG Metall industrial union spread to 11 more plants, as the union sought to pressure employers into accepting demands for a 6% wage increase. About 21,000 metal and electrical workers in the southern German state of Bavaria were on strike, up from 14,000 on Tuesday. The action, the union’s first walkout since 1984, now affects 33 Bavarian plants. In a conciliatory gesture, the state’s employers federation said it was ready to make a concrete contract offer to the Bavarian Metal and Electrical Industry Assn., the local chapter of IG Metall.
