It’s Polite to Get the Pronouns Correct

Re “Beneath the Masquerade” (Feb. 22):

It was with considerable interest and some relief I began to read the article as it seemed, at first glance, to indicate a willingness to begin to attempt to understand the phenomena of transvestism and transsexualism.

Such willingness was unfortunately belied by the writer’s repeated reference to Virginia Prince as “he,” references that were rude and insensitive.

I have known Virginia as a friend and business associate for more than 20 years, and I do not believe that she has ever during that time thought of herself as “him.” I certainly never have.
