NASA officials nixed plans to extend what is expected to be the longest shuttle flight ever. Scientists had asked for a one- or two-day extension to the 15 1/2-day Endeavour mission for more observations. But NASA officials at the Houston space center, citing iffy weather at the Florida landing site and uncertainties about how the extra-long trip would affect the crew, decided that Endeavour would land Friday at Florida’s Kennedy Space Center, breaking the shuttle endurance record by 19 hours.
