Malibu, Sweet Malibu

Re “Malibu: A Way of Life for Those in Denial” (March 15): Didn’t anyone ever teach Robin Abcarian that if she didn’t have anything nice to say to keep quiet?

Abcarian doesn’t live in Malibu and no one is asking her to, so why does she feel the need to be so nasty? Malibu has certainly had its fair share of problems. We endure fires, floods, slides and more. And yet we stay, each person for his or her own reason. And no one has the right to call that decision wrong.

And now, on this beautiful sunny day I’m off to the beach. And Ms. Abcarian, I hope you enjoy the day in West Covina.

Abcarian is just jealous.

At 16, I read a mystery that took place in the Malibu Colony. I told all my friends in Topeka, Kan., I was going to live in Malibu. The descriptions of the canyons, ocean, flowers and wildlife captivated me.

I told my husband I’d marry him on one condition. We would live in Malibu.

Well, it is 36 years later. We have had a fantastic marriage and, yes, we still have a love affair with Malibu even though we lost our home in the Malibu fire in 1993.
