Middle-distance runners Lyubov Kremlyova of Russia and Violeta Beclea of Romania competed at the World Indoor Championships weeks after failing drug tests, the IAAF confirmed.

Kremlyova won the bronze medal and Beclea finished fourth in the women’s 1,500 meters at the World Indoors at Barcelona, Spain, on March 12.

International Amateur Athletic Federation spokesman Christopher Winner confirmed that both runners tested positive for steroids at an invitational meet in Germany in late February.

They were allowed to compete at Barcelona because the “B” samples of their urine specimens had not yet been tested.

If the “B” samples also turn up positive when they are tested this week, the athletes will be banned for four years each.

The national governing body of the U.S. ski team is realigning its operations in an effort to boost revenue by about $2 million. The board of directors of U.S. Skiing announced it will organize a search committee to select a new chief executive officer. Mike Jacki, the board’s CEO since Dec. 1, 1993, will be reassigned to a new position that focuses solely on revenue generation, said board chairman Nick Badami, who will act as CEO until a new chief executive is named.
