VATICAN CITY : Papal Line on Life

Share

Pope John Paul II, who believes that morality is an absolute with no room for grays, delivers a sermon on righteousness Thursday in the form of a major encyclical. Written to refute what John Paul calls the “culture of death,” the papal teaching will revisit contentious areas of moral debate, including abortion.

A new attack on abortion will be a foundation of the Pope’s “Gospel of Life” exposition, which is expected to refine Roman Catholic Church positions on ethical issues of life and death, including a reiteration of the strongly held papal opposition to artificial birth control and euthanasia.

John Paul is also expected to expand on his opposition to biogenetics, including in vitro fertilization and experimentation on embryos.
