UAW Threatens Strike at Chrysler Plant: United Auto Workers members at Chrysler Corp.’s Kokomo, Ind., transmission plant said they will strike Friday morning if health and safety issues are not addressed in contract talks. The plant, which employs 5,700 hourly workers, is the sole source of automatic transmissions for most of Chrysler’s cars and trucks. A strike could disrupt production at U.S. and Canadian assembly plants within days. Bobbie Barbee, a UAW spokesman in Detroit, said the union would extend negotiations through the deadline if progress was made in the talks. The UAW has filed numerous grievances over health and safety issues at the plant but has declined to release details.
