NATION IN BRIEF : NEW YORK : FBI to Probe Blaze at Fish Market; 8 Hurt
The FBI was called in to investigate the fire that erupted in the historic Fulton Fish Market just days after Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani announced a crackdown on corruption and organized crime there. More than 200 firefighters battled the four-alarm blaze, which started in a storage area in the middle of the second floor of the warehouse. The blaze, which sent flames shooting more than 30 feet into the air, destroyed the second and third floors and caused the building’s roof to collapse. Eight firefighters were injured.
