NATION IN BRIEF : GEORGIA : Army to Discipline 9 in 4 Trainee Deaths
The Army said it will discipline nine instructors in the deaths of four Army Ranger trainees in February. The soldiers had died of exposure after spending four or five hours in chilly, chest-deep water at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. In one case, a soldier on a stretcher being evacuated for medical attention crashed 15 feet through trees when a helicopter cable became disconnected. The soldier later died of hypothermia, said Maj. Gen. John W. Hendrix, commander of Ft. Benning, Ga., where the Ranger Training Battalion is based.
