PacifiCare Unit Fined: The Florida division was fined $60,000 by state regulators because of its alleged failure to meet quality-of-care standards in its Medicaid managed-care program. Following a statewide audit, Florida issued fines ranging from $20,000 to $100,000 to 21 of the 29 prepaid health plans in the state’s Medicaid program for low-income people. Cypress-based PacifiCare Health Systems, which has about 11,500 Medicaid enrollees in Florida, will contest the fine, spokesman Ben Singer said.
