Volunteer Drivers for Cancer Patients Sought

Share

The American Cancer Society is seeking volunteers in every city in Ventura County to take patients to medical appointments.

The society serves an average of 2,000 patients a year, many of whom need to go to a treatment center five times a week.

Patients undergoing radiation therapy go to the hospital as often as 30 times within a six-week period, said Nancy Shook, a spokeswoman with the organization.

Volunteers are needed in every city in the county, and some should be able to drive patients to and from medical facilities in the Los Angeles area, Shook said.

Volunteers would need to use their own vehicles.

Those interested in helping should contact the society at 656-3437.
