GM, Union Tentatively Agree to End Strike: General Motors Corp. had been hit by a six-day walkout at its truck assembly plant in Pontiac, Mich. A GM spokeswoman said the main issue, the transfer of about 1,500 jobs from a closed plant, was resolved in a marathon bargaining session that began Tuesday morning. Details were withheld pending a ratification vote tonight. A spokesman for UAW Local 594 said the 7,800 workers would start returning Friday. GM’s stock fell 25 cents to close at $43.25 a share on the New York Stock Exchange.
