COVINA: An 18-year-old newspaper delivery man was the victim of a car theft Sunday morning. Ryan Wentworth of West Covina was threatened by a gunman who got into his 1982 Chevrolet El Camino about 5:45 a.m., police said. Wentworth had left the car with the engine running while he went into an apartment complex in the 1200 block of San Bernardino Road to drop off newspapers. The stolen car has California license plates 2DCB224.

DIAMOND BAR: The body of a 30-year-old Diamond Bar woman was found behind an apartment complex Sunday morning. Punam Joshi was found by relatives behind the recreation center of a complex in the 1700 block of Maple Hill Road, sheriff’s deputies said. Joshi had been shot once in the upper torso. Investigators are trying to determine whether Joshi’s death was a murder or a suicide. A .38-caliber revolver was found nearby.

DIAMOND BAR: A 49-year-old karate instructor has pleaded guilty to molesting a 4-year-old student. Robert Charles Mason will be sentenced today in Pomona Superior Court after pleading guilty to two counts of oral copulation and two counts of fondling, sheriff’s detectives said. Mason was arrested March 11 at his home in the 400 block of Platina Drive, where he teaches karate.

EL MONTE: A 45-year-old Rosemead woman was killed in a traffic accident Tuesday morning. The woman, whose name was not released because relatives had not yet been notified, lost control of her 1990 Acura Legend on Santa Anita Avenue and hit a utility pole about 1:20 a.m., police said. The woman, who was alone in the car, was airlifted to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, where she died an hour later.

PASADENA: A 16-year-old Altadena youth was killed in a gang-related shooting Friday night. Manolo Luna was shot in the head and torso about 9:20 p.m. in the 1100 block of Mentone Avenue. He died an hour later at Huntington Memorial Hospital. Police arrested Jose Medina, 18, of Boyle Heights and two juveniles in connection with the shooting. Medina is being held without bail at Pasadena City Jail; the juveniles are being held at Eastlake Juvenile Hall in Los Angeles. All three are being held on suspicion of murder. Luna’s death occurred after he and two friends were turned away from a birthday party, a celebration that had no gang ties, police said. The three were standing in the street when rival gang members approached them and opened fire. Police are asking party-goers who witnessed the incident to contact them.

SOUTH EL MONTE: A 26-year-old El Monte man was shot and killed in a restaurant Sunday afternoon. Chinh Van Nguyen was shot about 4:30 p.m. as he sat in the Hai-Au Cafe in the 9600 block of Garvey Avenue, sheriff’s deputies said. Nguyen was approached by four men, one of whom shot him in the upper torso with a handgun. Nguyen died at the scene. The suspects fled in a car.

TEMPLE CITY: A 57-year-old Temple City man and a 20-year-old El Monte man were killed in a traffic accident Thursday. William Randall Halverson and Jesus Rodriguez were killed in the noon accident in the 6600 block of Temple City Boulevard. Halverson was a passenger in one of three cars involved in the collision, sheriff’s deputies said. Rodriguez was driving a car that collided with an auto driven by a Temple City High School student. After hitting the student’s auto, the car skidded into traffic, broadsiding a third vehicle driven by Halverson’s 53-year-old wife. Halverson’s wife, whose name was unavailable, was airlifted to Long Beach Memorial Hospital where she underwent surgery, deputies said.
