Family of Woman Who Fell on Stairs Sues Disneyland

The family of a 63-year-old Los Angeles woman who died nearly two months after falling down a flight of stairs in Disneyland’s Sleeping Beauty Castle have filed a lawsuit, accusing the theme park of negligence.

Libradita Obregon was walking through the castle with a nephew last Dec. 21 when she fell, said Scott H. Carr, a Santa Monica attorney representing the woman’s brothers and sisters.

The family alleges in the lawsuit, filed in Orange County Superior Court, that Obregon died Feb. 22 in a local hospital as a result of head injuries from the fall. Her death certificate by the coroner’s office does not list a cause of death pending investigation.

Carr said it appears that lighting in the castle was inadequate, and he plans on exploring the issue in the case.

A Disneyland spokesman said that park officials have seen the lawsuit but that he could not comment.

Obregon, a lifelong resident of Los Angeles County, worked 15 years as a department store sales clerk, her family said. The lawsuit seeks at least $50,000 in general damages and for hospital and funeral expenses.
