The superintendent of the Circle of Nations School has resigned, saying the move should help end criticism of the boarding school for troubled Native American children.

Robert Hall said he had become a lightning rod for critics. Last month, a panel of education experts recommended that the Bureau of Indian Affairs remove Hall, citing hundreds of reports of violence, vandalism and other misbehavior at the school and saying poor management contributed to the problems.

School board Chairman Allen English and board member Joan Harte will take over Hall’s job for the remainder of the year.
