Share

More than a dozen nonprofit public service agencies, five city departments and the Fullerton School District will receive a total of $1.8 million in federal grant money to spend on community development activities under a City Council decision.

City departments--including development services, community services, engineering, police community services and maintenance services--will receive about $1.6 million from the Department of Housing and Urban Development through the Community Development Block Grant program.

The city departments plan to use the money to continue programs such as graffiti removal, social service transportation, housing rehabilitation and code enforcement. Money will also be spent to renovate the Lemon Park basketball court, reconstruct streets and sidewalks and upgrade street lighting.

The council decision, made last week, also gave the Fullerton School District $30,000 to help rehabilitate the Maple Community Center.

The nonprofit agencies were granted $144,670 for programs such as life skills training, home meal delivery and tutoring services.
