For those who can’t wait until tomorrow, the nation’s two leading package-delivery services have come up with the Pony Express for the ‘90s: You’ll get it today.

United Parcel Service and Federal Express Corp. both announced Tuesday that they will soon inaugurate same-day domestic delivery service.

UPS SonicAir Service will offer same-day or “next flight out” delivery. It will be available beginning April 17 to big customers and will be offered to all customers in May, the Atlanta-based company said in a statement.

The service will be available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to all locations UPS serves. Next-flight-out service will initially be available only in the continental United States.

FedEx SameDay will offer similar features beginning June 1. It will also be available 24 hours a day, all year, on packages weighing up to 70 pounds.

Neither company disclosed how much same-day delivery will cost.
