The Chamber of Commerce has received $6,000 from the city to provide visitor and tourist information.

The council approved the expenditure last week. Council members held off on approving an additional $12,000 for the next fiscal year, which begins July 1.

Tom Facon, executive director of the chamber, told the council that his staff handles hundreds of telephone calls each month from people interested in visiting San Juan Capistrano.

Besides providing answers to questions, Facon said, the chamber has a telephone system that allows callers to be patched through to local restaurants, shops and its No. 1 attraction--Mission San Juan Capistrano.

Facon said the service is valuable to the city, which depends on tourist dollars for revenue.
