Emergency Services Office in Pasadena to Shut April 28

Share

The state’s Office of Emergency Services in Pasadena will close April 28--16 months after it was set up to help residents with fire recovery and flood/mudslide preparedness.

State officials determined that the office had accomplished its goals of helping residents get back on their feet, said Fred Messick, a spokesman for emergency services. Help still is available from the county’s Building and Safety Department in Arcadia, he said.

In October, 1993, wildfires swept through the Altadena area, destroying 115 homes and damaging 63. The office opened in December, 1993, working with residents and the Eaton Canyon Recovery Alliance, a coalition of homeowners associations. The office provides a community newsletter, seminars, support groups and rebuilding advice.
